SBUHB are offering a development opportunity for an enthusiastic, motivated, NMC registered nurse preferably with knowledge, skills and expertise in TB nursing to join our team here in Singleton Hospital.
The band 6 TB specialist nurse will support the Band 7 TB lead Nurses in providing a comprehensive TB service encompassing disease control and prevention.
We maintain close links with Public Health Wales, Occupational Health departments here in SBUHB and Swansea University as well as the BBV team. There will be opportunity for outreach work to screen and monitor high risk vulnerable patients within the community. This work would take place in Homeless shelters and on the Welfare Bus at different locations across Swansea, Neath and Port Talbot.
Applicants should have good interpersonal and communication skills, having an ability to communicate sensitive information to patients and relatives where there may be barriers to communication or reassurance is required.
The post will be 8.30-4.30 Monday to Friday.
Main duties of the job
Assess adults for Latent TB with the use of T-SPOT blood testing (IGRA) in the Nurse led Clinic. Undertake holistic assessments, arrange screening for BBV's. The use of Language Line is often required.
You will support the TB Consultant their monthly clinic and identify close contacts of index cases and facilitate appropriate screening.
The CNS will be required to arrange ongoing medication for those with both Latent and Active TB disease. You will oversee VOT and DOT. Databases should be updated regularly within SBUHB and NTBS. The Specialist Nurse will be required to present cases at the All Wales quarterly Co-hort review meetings via TEAMS.
