Job summary
The Specialist Behaviour Team (SBT) is part of Adult Learning Disability Services within Swansea Bay University Health Board (SBUHB) and provides enhanced Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) input to service users with a Learning Disability and significant behaviours/risks that challenge. The SBT is a tertiary level service and works alongside professionals in Community Learning Disability teams to enhance service user support and contribute to multi-disciplinary decision-making and risk management. The SBT operates a Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Model and supports service users across the SBUHB learning disability footprint i.e. Cardiff and Vale, RCT and Merthyr, Bridgend, Neath Port Talbot and Swansea. The team has two bases, one in Bridgend and one in Swansea with members of the team split across the two bases. This current post would be based in Swansea but post holders may be required to work across the health board footprint. The team comprises of three Clinical Psychologists, Seven Behaviour Specialists who all have a professional registration and six Assistant Behaviour specialists and is Clinical Psychology led and managed with support from a service Business Manager.
Main duties of the job
The SBT provides in-depth support to services in PBS approaches. Caseloads are from community based care providers and therefore travelling to these settings across south Wales is required. The role is largely Monday to Friday 9- 5 but may include evening, night and weekend working as required. The SBT also support NHS learning disability inpatient services, including Acute admission settings and Continuing care inpatient beds which again are spread across the health board footprint. The Assistant Behaviour specialist role involves supporting behaviour specialist case leads on the clinical work such as, undertaking direct observations, hands on support of challenging service users, undertaking outcome measures, delivering training, contributing to research and other project work within the team. The role offers the opportunity to become an ABMU PBM (physical intervention approach) trainer. The post is part of a friendly and supportive team and the applicant will be well supported with training and supervision opportunities and regular PADR's . The team welcomes individuals who meet the minimum qualification criteria and are keen to work hands on with service users who present with complex and challenging needs and further develop their skills in PBS. Candidates should also have good IT and written skills and who can demonstrate significant experience of working hands on with individuals who present with behaviours that challenge services.
