Job summary

Nuclear Medicine Services provide highly specialised services to hospitals and GP's within South West Wales. The post holder will be part of a highly skilled team, providing consistent bone density (DXA) and Nuclear Medicine imaging services using highly specialised patient imaging equipment.

The post holder will undertake and deliver imaging services for all types of patients under close supervision of technical staff and in the course of their duties:

  • Provide patient support, counselling and welfare of patients for the DXA and Nuclear Medicine, including ensuring the correct patient preparation and preparation compliance ahead of complex.
  • Work independently within their scope of competence using a range of highly specialised patient imaging.
  • They will learn to differentiate between technical and clinical problems and to liaise with suitably qualified colleagues as needed.
  • Deal routinely deal with frail patients and their relatives, requiring tact and patients who may be physically or mentally impaired, and all will need dealing with in an empathetic manner, in order to gain the greatest cooperation during highly complex investigations.
  • Will deliver excellent patient care while they are in the department this will involve manual handling, often of critically ill and incapacitated patients, some of which may be being barrier nursed, requiring the implementation of infection control procedures. Post holder will be required to concentrate on a frequent.

Main duties of the job

This is a part-time, 12 months temporary post / secondment at band 5 level in the Nuclear Medicine department in the mobile unit at Hywel Dda and at Singleton Hospital. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring adequate levels of cover to imaging and DXA scanning in the service, which may include long scanning on weekdays and weekends, following an adequate period of training and for supporting the service flexibly during the remaining of the contracted time.

We are looking to recruit an exceptionally motivated Radiographer or Nuclear Medicine Clinical Technologist at Band 5 to join our friendly and dynamic team. The Radiographer/Clinical Technologist will be expected to provide technical support to the DXA service but also across the full range of Nuclear Medicine Services. This is an exciting opportunity to take part in a currently fast developing setting.

Nuclear Medicine at Singleton is a friendly and progressive service. Continuing professional development of all staff is encouraged and supported. Full training will be provided to suitable candidates. The selected candidate will be required to pursue RCT or HCPC professional registration within the course of their employment.

The ability to travel between sites in a timely manner is essential. The ability to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service, is essential for this post.
