Job summary

There is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic Health Care Support Worker with excellent team working skills to join the Children and Young Person's Weight Management Service 'Lighthouse'. The successful applicant will be joining the multi-disciplinary service, offering a unique opportunity to support the service.

The post is permanent, part time (18.75 hours per week), and provides a service across the Swansea Bay University Health Board areas in a variety of settings.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for a Health Care Support Worker with experience of working with children, young people and their families and understand the physical as well as psychological impacts of overweight/obesity. You will be mainly supporting the paediatrician by performing patient observations, requesting blood tests and administrative tasks and will also support the multidisciplinary team with interventions, follow ups and administrative tasks.

The team consists of an operational lead, psychologist, dietitian, occupational therapist, physiotherapist, consultant paediatrician and support workers and will work to the All Wales Obesity Pathway for Children and Young People and Welsh Government standards. The post holder will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with children, young people, families, team colleagues and the wider systems, offering a broad range of interventions to include 1:1 as well as group interventions.

You will have the opportunity to receive supervision and mentoring in your role. We offer both departmental and personal CPD time to support your development and are committed to the development of evidenced based practice, research and clinical audit.   • Significant experience of working as a Healthcare Assistant within an NHS service.
  • Ability to deal with non-routine and unpredictable nature of the workload, prioritise workload and individual patient contact.
  • Experience of team working
  • Experience of using windows, Microsoft Word, PowerPoint and outlook packages.

  • Experience of delivering group education.
