Job summary

The post holder will be expected to play a key role and to work autonomously in the operational and clinical leadership of treatment delivery and all relevant processes within the Radiotherapy Department, including acting as the IR(ME)R entitled operator.

They must ensure the provision of a high quality and patient focused treatment service and provide support and training to their colleagues, peers and students alike.

To have expert working knowledge and skills in all relevant radiotherapy techniques and on-line imaging and advise the Clinical Oncologists / Scientists about what is best practice.

To ensure they and other radiographers/professionals are fully compliant with IR(ME)R regulations governing the use of ionising radiation for imaging and treatment.

To maintain the appropriate competencies for treatment delivery for all relevant patients.

To have excellent communication skills, technical ability, innovation and mutual dexterity.

Main duties of the job

Duties/responsibilities.

To be responsible for managing the treatment pathway for all relevant patients and ensuring adequate training, guidance and leadership for all relevant staff, to include fellow radiographers, students, dosimetrists, clinical scientist and clinical oncologists.

Ensure records are retained for all staff training.

Manage a cohort of approximately (and above) 100 patients ensuring they have accurate, appropriate and consistent imaging and treatment.

Assist in the provision of all aspects of the radiotherapy service to ensure the highest quality of patient care.

Liaise with colleagues with a multidisciplinary approach to monitor and improve the service provided.

Support and train members of staff to maintain and develop professional and personal skills and standards, with patient care and IR(ME)R at the forefront.

Ensure that all IR(ME)R, IRR17, Health and Safety, Manual Handling and Quality Assurance regulations are adhered to.

Make professional judgements by applying a critical and analytical approach to all treatment situations. This is particularly important where deviations from protocol occur, and the justification of radiation exposure must be clearly addressed and documented.

To be responsible for their practice and to adhere to the professional code of conduct at all times.
