Job summary

Gorseinon Hospital is a 44 bedded community Hospital based in the village of Gorseinon. West ward accepts patients from the acute sites in Morriston and Singleton hospitals for a period of rehabilitation prior to discharge home.

We have a permanent vacancy for a band 7 Unit manager. We are looking for an individual who will act as a positive role model and leader for our team. The successful candidate will also support our Matron in delivering high standards of care for our patients.

West Ward is a 44 bedded ward that specialises in Elderly Care/Rehabilitation. This post is for a motivated and enthusiastic person with excellant communication skills. They will need to be organised, flexible and approachable. We are looking for an individual with excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills.The individual will be innovative and forward thinking with the ability to lead and develop this service.

The person will need to have a good sound medical knowledge as we only have medical cover Monday - Friday from 9.00am to 5.00pm.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will need to work closely with the Ward Matron ensuring an effective ward leadership and management style. We are looking for an innovative person in their approach to care standards and leadership. They should show awareness and knowledge of budget control and the need to utilise resources efficiently and economically ensuring a quality service to all patients, whilst also understanding their role in Clinical Governance and Audit. Thus, the successful candidate will demonstrate the ability to nuture and develop individuals and teams to ensure the efficient and effective use of resources in order to maintain and improve on the standards of care delivered .

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
