Job summary
The Post Holder will provide clinically based education and guidance to all levels of neonatal nurses ensuring best available evidence. They will be able to facilitate orientation, induction, supervision, teaching, assessment or guidance and provide any appropriate support to any members of the neonatal nursing team with their professional development The post holder will possess excellent clinical knowledge and teaching skills to enable them to work within the level 3 environment. They will deliver high standards of care, and be able to support and develop junior staff nurses knowledge and skills. The post holder will, without supervision, be responsible for undertaking research to inform, create and up-date nursing protocols, will participate in collaborative neonatal research
Main duties of the job
An opportunity has arisen for a highly motivated neonatal nurse to join the Practice Development team on the Neonatal Unit at Singleton Hospital.
The Neonatal Team have a reputation of being innovative and forward thinking in the management and delivery of care and have received a number of awards for quality improvement programmes.
This role will support the delivery of education to our nursing team which is paramount in supporting clinical excellence.

To work in partnership with the Lead Nurse, senior practice development sister, Senior Clinical Nurses and others to support staff to develop clinical and managerial skills. To support nursing staff within the clinical arena to develop their knowledge and skills. To be a role model at all times and maintain a visible professional presence to whom all staff, patients and carers can turn for reliable assistance, advice and support.
To use the ability to assess, plan and evaluate the educational needs of members of the nursing team, in order to put in place educational programmes that benefit the personal development of individuals and that of the department and the service as a whole.
To lead and contribute to the multi-disciplinary policy/guideline/protocol audit groups and standard setting.
To support staff within the clinical practice arena to learn how to discover the best available evidence, how to assess whether it will enhance current practice, and how to implement it into practice. Assist in the implementation of change to act as a resource advisor, coach and agent of change for all participants
To undertake research in order to produce nursing protocols that incorporate the use of best possible evidence. To collaborate with members of the MDT in conducting research to advance neonatal care. To facilitate a greater awareness of the role of the research process and in particular action research within the department and use findings to change practice where appropriate. To disseminate research findings as widely as appropriate by multiple methods of delivery. To work within a shared governance framework, to help provide direction for the future of neonatal nursing locally reflecting the strategic ongoing changes within the field of neonatal nursing.
