Job summary

We are looking for a Senior Principal Public Health Practitioner who will take an active leadership role within the Health Board's Immunisation service.

Working closely with the Head of Immunisation service and Public Health Team, the post holder will be responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of the Health Board's vaccine equity strategy as outlined in the National Immunisation Framework for Wales. It will involve working with specific target groups in a range of settings and in partnership with local communities and partner organisations to improve vaccination literacy and reduce vaccine hesitancy amongst our population.

The post holder will provide specialist advice and support on the development of public health/health promotion programmes in relation to immunisations and support community health development approaches and initiatives to address health inequalities.

The role will involve engagement of stakeholders and partner agencies, aligning the delivery of the Health Board's strategic objectives, including the achievement of financial balance.

Main duties of the job

  • Senior strategic role that requires the post holder to work across the HB footprint, building and delivering a transformational systems-wide approach to a range of topics that impact health outcomes.
  • Lead the development of effective strategic partnerships and networks with relevant statutory, voluntary and private sector organisations at a local and regional level, to plan cohesively for measurable improvements in health and wellbeing outcomes across Swansea Bay.
  • Design and delivery of key strategic plans across partnerships and advises and supports partners in the development and implementation of effective approaches to improving and protecting the health of the local population and address health inequalities.

Essential

  • Masters in Public Health to include a module in health promotion theory and practice or evidence of equivalent professional qualification.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.

Desirable

  • Registered, or working towards registration as a Public Health Practitioner on the UKPHR.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience in a senior role in Public Health/ Health Promotion (equivalent to Principal Practitioner level)
  • Substantial direct experience working with diverse senior professional and managerial groups across a range of organisations and professional disciplines.
  • Extensive experience of staff, stakeholder and public engagement and / or involvement.

Desirable

  • Experience of working with the main partner organisations especially local government, understanding the environmental and political context in which they operate.
  • Quantitative and/ or qualitative research
