Magnetic Resonance Imaging Physics

Starting salary will be on the first point of Band 6 on a 3 year fixed term contract due to funding.

The NHS in Wales is offering a salaried post-graduate training post for a high calibre science graduate who is passionate about science and its role in patient care in the field of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Physics. This post is open only to those who have been awarded or who are currently undertaking a recognised MSc in Medical Physics or equivalent

Role will be based in South-west Wales at the Singleton Hospital in Swansea and be employed by Swansea Bay University Health Board for the duration of their training. There will also be some travel expected in order to attend other training centres, sites at which services are provided or workshops.

Main duties of the job

On completion of training, prospects for permanent employment within Wales are excellent. For individuals with aptitude and commitment there are opportunities to progress through the career pathway to Consultant Clinical Scientist. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals who are motivated to pursue their career in Medical Physics within Wales.

About us

You will be located at the Singleton Hospital on the coast, adjacent to Swansea University. The Health Board covers a population of approximately 0.5 million people and also provides tertiary services including cancer across southwest Wales for close to a population of 1 million. The Health Board provides a full range of services across Singleton and Morriston Hospitals in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot Hospital.The Department of Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering is mostly based in the Singleton Hospital and operates across the Health Board and beyond, employing about 120 scientists, engineers and technicians. This is a particularly exciting time to train at Swansea with the successful candidate contributing to the development of the new MRI Physics service. MRI scientific services are provided to Health Boards across South Wales and to Swansea University. The department has very strong links with the university with an active established research collaboration.
