Job summary

We are looking to appoint a Consultant T&O Surgeon with a specialist interest in Complex Primary and Revision Hip and Knee replacement. The successful candidate will join a group of 10 established arthroplasty consultants in a department that consists of 30 Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeons and 8 Consultant Spinal surgeons. The post holder would be expected to partake in the creation of South Wales revision networks with a specialist interest in complex revision and infected revision arthroplasty.

The position is newly funded, with successful business case approval, for expansion into a newly built, dedicated elective High Volume Low complexity (HVLC) centre on the non-acute site at Neath Port Talbot hospital with 5 laminar flow MSK theatres and 2 day case theatres. In addition, the consultants would perform their trauma on call and Low Volume High Complexity (LVHC) reconstructions at Morriston hospital with the necessary back up from ITU, vascular, cardiac, plastics and renal services for complex tertiary referral work.

We currently run a 1:12 consultant on-call rota in which new consultants would partake. The T&O Service at Morriston Hospital provides a comprehensive orthopaedic service to its patients and is part of the Major Trauma Network as a Major Trauma Unit where the regional Orthoplastics service is based. This includes paediatric patients and a spinal service delivering elective activity and urgent/emergency cover in conjunction with its orthopaedic on-call teams.
