Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic Band 7 Occupational Therapist to join the Occupational Therapy Team in Swansea Bay UHB. The post will be based in Neath Port Talbot Hospital working within the newly enhanced Elective Orthopaedic service which has been further developed in line with the Changing for the Future Strategic Plan for Swansea Bay University Health Board.

The post will allow the successful applicants the opportunity to work collaboratively within an integrated multi-disciplinary team. You will provide specialist assessment, goal directed intervention and rehabilitation to patients following a range of elective orthopaedic surgery. This is a new service so the successful candidates will also play a lead role in the development and evaluation of the new delivery model and patient outcomes. Timely discharge planning experience is essential the service will be working towards same day discharge.

You will be required to work flexibly to meet the needs of the service, including a 7-day shift pattern, with extended working hours covering 365 days of the year.

Main duties of the job

The role will be responsible for the management and development of the service as well as maintaining a clinical caseload. A commitment to collaborative working with the Multi-Disciplinary Team is essential. We actively support the education of Occupational Therapy students within our service.

The successful candidate will have excellent communication and clinical skills, along withexperience of service development and quality improvement.

To manage a defined caseload within specialist area, using evidence based /client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate the outcomes of intervention where appropriate; hospital, community, patients' homes, schools, outpatient settings and maintaining associated records. To organise this efficiently and effectively with regard to clinical priorities and use of time.

To ensure clinical records are kept to agreed standards and report accurately to others.

To work in partnership with clients, carers and all stake holders including the multidisciplinary/ multi agency team to identify relevant goals.To provide leadership and supervision for junior staff, as delegated by supervisor /team leader.

To regularly supervise Occupational Therapy students on practice placements.

To participate in CPD and develop skills and knowledge through participation in developmental activities.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
