Applications are invited for this exciting post in a major tertiary cardiac centre in South Wales. The Electrophysiology fellow will undergo extensive sub-specialty training in diagnostic and interventional electrophysiology including the modern management of cardiac arrhythmias, radiofrequency ablation, implantable defibrillators and complex pacing for arrhythmias and heart failure.
Main duties of the job
This post is available from January 2025 for an initial period of 12 months, with a possibility of extension and is suitable for a candidate with MRCP (or equivalent). An NTN in Cardiology (or equivalent) is required, with broad experience in general and interventional cardiology, including operating independently when performing and high levels of experience in pacemaker implantation as a first operator.
The post is ideally suited for a person approaching the end of, or, having completed their training who wishes to pursue a career in cardiac electrophysiology. The successful candidate would be the senior trainee with access to 4 EP lab days a week and would have no in office hours on call commitments.

Morriston Hospital Cardiac Centre
The centre currently provides Tertiary Cardiac Services for the entire population of mid and West Wales, and it also provides CCU and secondary care facilities for Swansea. Tertiary Cardiac Services commenced at Morriston Hospital in 1997. The centre combines cardiology and cardiothoracic surgery, which have a very close working relationship. The units catchment area is large and diverse, some of it urban and industrialised, and some very rural and remote, from Bridgend in the South East to Machynlleth in the North West.
The Centre has a purpose-built three-story building, which is part of the main hospital. The lower ground floor is composed of an outpatient consultation area and non-invasive cardiology suite including facilities for Holter monitoring, event recorders, exercise testing and echocardiography.
The main ward include three cardiac wards, 8 bed Coronary Care Unit, a 12 bedded short stay unit, X-ray screening room for emergency procedures, a 12 bedded cardiac ITU and 8 bed surgical HDU. There is also an adjacent office area for consultants and secretaries with a well-equipped seminar room, complete with teleconferencing facilities.
The second floor contains two cardiac theatres and three catheter labs and a pacing suite.
