Job summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Radiopharmacy Technical Officer to work within the Radiopharmacy team at Singleton Hospital Nuclear Medicine.

The Radiopharmacy team is involved in manufacturing radioactively-labelled pharmaceuticals for patient use, performing in-process and final production checks, as well as, maintaining a MHRA-licensed manufacturing unit and its specialist equipment.

The Nuclear Medicine service consists of approximately 30 members of staff, with a mix of roles, including pharmacists, clinical scientists, technologists, trainees, assistants, and administrative staff. We are a forward-looking team and desire to be at the forefront of our speciality. We encourage staff to develop themselves and offer training pathways as appropriate. This is a busy department with an excellent work ethic.

This post will require 06:00 starts and is a offered on a permanent basis.

This post also falls within scope of the national 'Transforming Access to Medicines' (TrAMs) programme for Wales which is aiming to centralise all of Pharmacy Technical Services into three regional hubs.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will undertake technical duties in the aseptic preparation of radiopharmaceuticals in accordance with the principles of Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP). Radiopharmaceutical manufacture is carried out under a Manufacturer's Specials Licence issued by the MHRA. Pre-manufacturing preparation and final product checking will also be important to this role.

The post also involves specialist cleaning of aseptic production facilities and clinical areas used for radionuclide therapies, organisation of consumable items, performance of radiopharmaceutical quality control tests, and working safely with radioactive materials. A comprehensive and supportive training programme will be provided for all of these tasks.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Essential

  • Vocational Qualification Level 3 or equivalent level plus additional theoretical or applied training in specific discipline to diploma equivalent level or HNC/HND or equivalent in a science subject, or Completion of the Science Manufacturing Technician course or proven equivalent experience.
  • GSCE or AS Level or A Level in Chemistry, or Biology, or Physics, or Mathematics.

Desirable

  • Statutory registration/professional chartered status with relevant professional body (or a commitment to attain this compulsory status).

Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience of working within a technical or laboratory service to GMP or GLP guidelines- e.g., Radiopharmacy, aseptics, manufacturing, pharmaceutical industry, university laboratory, or microbiology laboratory.
  • Proven experience of good performance in previous posts.

Desirable

  • Experience of Radiopharmacy AND/OR sterile/non-sterile manufacture.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Excellent accuracy and attention to detail whilst working under pressure within a high-performance environment, for example, in following manufacturing instructions, quality control protocols, and completing documentation.
  • Excellent manual dexterity in aseptic manufacturing.
