This is an exciting opportunity for a General Practitioner to work in a secure environment setting within Swansea Bay University Health Board. The medical workforce within HMP Swansea is provides care aligned to community primary care to meet the growing needs of this vulnerable patient population. The Salaried GP team act to provide stability and continuity of care alongside the wider healthcare team within HMP Swansea. The post holder will work alongside the Clinical Lead for Secure Environments and Substance Misuse to deliver quality, safe and effective care to the patient population of HMP Swansea and will adhere to the Health Board values in all aspects of their professional practice. The post holder should ideally have experience of working within a secure environment and be familiar with the restrictions and sanctions such roles must navigate during the daily delivery of health care services. The post holder should be familiar with the treatment and care pathways of patients with history of substance misuse and be confident to make timely decisions regarding future management.

Main duties of the job

The salaried GP for Secure Environments will directly support the Clinical Lead to ensure service re-design and workforce development remain a priority within HMP Swansea. The post holder will be required to work a range of shifts and on-call duties within General Practice hours in addition to adopting some aspects of training and mentorship to support the development of the alternative workforce

* provision of direct patient care through appropriate clinical assessment, diagnosis & treatment for patients in HMP Swansea.

* have/ work rapidly to gain experience & confidence in working within a secure setting & be aware of the working environment & restrictions associated with HMP healthcare roles to ensure personal, patient & wider team safety.

* all aspects of urgent & routine presentations, with escalation of care based on priority and severity.

*be familiar with the management of patients with history of substance misuse& confident in making timely decisions for future management.

* work collaboratively with all members of the multi-disciplinary team within HMP Swansea & wider internal/external stakeholders.

* expected to develop & support the dissemination of best practice.

About us

Swansea Bay University Health Board has responsibility for the health of around 390,000 people in the Neath Port Talbot and Swansea areas, with a budget of around £1 billion and employing 12,500 people. We are a University Health Board working in partnership with Swansea University, Swansea School of Medicine, the School of Health Science and the Institute of Life Science. The HB has three major hospitals providing a range of services: Morriston and Singleton hospitals in Swansea and Neath Port Talbot hospital in Baglan, Port Talbot.
