The department of General Medicine in Swansea Bay UHB are looking to recruit to 8 Junior Clinical Fellow posts. These posts are at Internal Medicine training (IMT) grade 1 and participate in the work of Medicine Department and the SHO/ CT1/ 2 level on-call rota. In addition, appointees will be able to gain experience and training in a wide range of medical subspecialties and participate in research or teaching.
Applications are invited for the posts of Junior Clinical Fellow in General Medicine at Swansea Bay University Health Board. These posts are for 12 months in the first instance (start dates to be in line with Feb/Aug rotations) to be discussed with the successful candidates, although permanent appointments would be subject to further review, consideration and confirmation of funding being extended.
The posts will predominately be based Morriston hospital however may be required to rotate to Singleton Hospital if required. The posts will be in a variety of potential specialties including, Acute Medicine, Cardiology, Diabetes and Endocrinology, Gastroenterology, Geriatrics, Infectious Diseases, Neurology, Respiratory, Stroke and Renal medicine.
Main duties of the job
Junior Clinical Fellow posts are at Internal Medicine Trainee (IMT) grade and participate in the general medicine department at Senior House Officer (SHO) level as part of the inpatient and on-call team.These posts would be very suitable for candidates who have completed Foundation Year 2 and wish to undertake an "F3" year. You will, participate in general medical on-calls on the appropriate on call rota in Morriston hospital and may also be required to cover out of hours at Singleton Hospital. You will be required to participate in a full shift pattern with prospective cover; the frequency of overnight on call will be approximately 1:9 to 1:23. Specialty experience and training in acute, inpatient and outpatient care will be gained in a number of placements from: Diabetes & Endocrinology, Geriatric Medicine, Cardiology, Stroke Medicine, Respiratory Medicine and Gastroenterology whilst also getting wide experience and training in acute medicine, general medicine inpatient care and ambulatory care. You will provide medical cover of the Medical Assessment Unit and receive excellent experience in managing seriously ill patients with consultant supervision.
