Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for an HCPC registered clinical scientist in Biochemistry to work in a bank role with the existing Swansea Bay Laboratory Medicine Team. This is a fixed term post for 16 months to cover maternity leave.

If you are a Swansea Bay University Health Board employee this post will only be offered on a secondment basis and you will need to have gained your line managers approval for the secondment prior to going to interview.

This role is based at Morriston Hospital, Swansea. However there is opportunity for some home working. You will be provided with the support and equipment you will need to be able to work from home, but an internet/WiFi connection is essential.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will join the team of Chemical Pathologists, Clinical Scientists and Biomedical Scientists in the provision of a comprehensive Laboratory Medicine service for Swansea Bay University Health Board and all associated GP practices as an aid to effective diagnosis, treatment and monitoring of disease.

He/She will be required to perform a broad and demanding range of complex, specialised and routine work, requiring skilled performance. He/She will participate in the Duty Biochemist rota, and will provide advice on the clinical interpretation of highly complex and sensitive biochemical results to medical and nursing staff of all grades within the Health Board and Primary Care.

He/She will act independently within appropriate occupational guidelines and policies. He/She will have a high level of individual responsibility applied to a variety of situations with or without technical support, and will have considerable autonomy within the overall responsibility of the Consultant Clinical Scientist.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.
