Job summary
Following expansion of surgical services on the Morriston site, we are looking for motivated and forward thinking staff nurses to work across the acute surgical hub. The unit provides a unique service that is versatile in its approach to modern health care, facilitating early discharge, an open door policy and admission avoidance.
Divided into three areas, which includes Surgical Assessment Unit, Surgical Same Day Emergency Care and a Surgical Short Stay Ward, you will work on a rotational basis through all three of these areas. This new and varied clinical environment can offer you the opportunity to gain skills and knowledge in triage and assessment, of a mix of surgical sub-specialities, which include upper and lower GI, MaxFax and ENT, Urology and General Surgery. Within the ward environment, you will be looking after pre and post-operative patients. You will work closely with the MDT, in all areas and close working with the site management team is paramount.
This unit will accept admissions from GP referrals, intra-hospital transfers and those coming through Morriston's Emergency Department and clinics. The role is both interesting and demanding and a flexible approach to nursing and learning is required. The unit management team along with the nurse development team will support successful candidates to achieve competencies and undertake training.
Main duties of the job
