Job summary

As part of the exciting redesign of surgical services at Morriston Hospital ward R is going to be become the vascular surgical ward. The nursing team will be part of the wider vascular MDT and will specialise in providing nursing care and treatment to patients with a full range of arterial and venous diseases including, aneurysms, peripheral vascular disease(lower limb angioplasty / stent, lower limb bypass, lower limb amputation), diabetic foot disease, carotid disease, venous disease, leg ulcersand vascular anomalies.

You will have the opportunity to work with a specialised MDT that includes, Vascular Surgeon, Interventional Radiologists, Vascular Clinical nurse specialists, vascular surgical Care Practitioners, Vascular Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist and the artificial limb and appliance service.

We are part of a wider south wales Vascular network and provide emergency and planned vascular services for South West Wales patients. Wound care is paramount as many of our patients have chronic wounds, ulceration or amputation sites - this wounds often have insufficient distal arterial perfusion, which makes wound healing more challenging.

Main duties of the job

Main duties include:

  • Have an extended knowledge of vascular conditions and procedures to be able to offer advice and support to patient and their families Pre, Peri and Post operatively.
  • Organising and participating in the delivery of high standards of evidence based nursing care.
  • Planning, implementing and evaluating standards of vascular nursing care through continue professional development.
  • Taking responsibility to carry out required planned, direct patient care to a high standard, in accordance with established nursing procedures and policies.
  • Where relevant, be responsible and assist in the co-ordination of discharge planning in partnership with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Contributing towards the health promotion for all patients by provided education, support and advice as necessary, ensuring referral to appropriate professionals or agencies as required.
  • Be responsible for the admission, assessments and preparation of the vascular patients undergoing treatment or investigations.
  • Liaise effectively with other departments and all members of the Multidisciplinary team.

Variability of surgery of emergency/elective patients ensures that a wide range of vascular knowledge and nursing skills are continuously being updated.
