Job summary

An Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner position has arisen in the Musculoskeletal (MSK) Physiotherapy team. This role will involve supporting the delivery and pathway developments of MSK conditions in Swansea Bay University Health Board. The post holder will provide triage clinics in the Clinical Musculoskeletal Assessment and Treatment Service and core physiotherapy department. The role will involve working closely with Physiotherapy Team Leads, Allied Health Professionals, GP's, consultants in secondary/tertiary care and other agencies. The post holder will provide clinical mentorship and support of Physiotherapy staff. As part of monitoring quality and MSK standards, the post holder will oversee audits and support research to ensure high standard of care for our patients. Additionally, the post holder will be involved in service development and improvement in the health board.

Main duties of the job

The post holder must have significant clinical knowledge and skills in MSK physiotherapy. It is important to have experience working in a clinic based environment offering an multidisciplinary approach to patient care. The role will involve assessing complex MSK pathologies, referring for investigations to assist with diagnosis and the development of a management plan.The physiotherapy service actively encourages personal development with bimonthly team meetings and training sessions. As a senior clinician, there is expectation for the post holder to be actively involved in health board teaching sessions, audit and research. JOB SUMMARY:

  • To work within the musculoskeletal team, taking a lead role (with MSK physio lead/Head of Physio and other APPs) in the development and implementation of MSK pathways, triaging and signposting patients in a variety of settings, (initially within the MCAS setting), liaising closely with primary and secondary care teams, clinically managing selected new patients and appropriate follow ups. (A service priority is to ensure multidisciplinary assessment and management )
  • To assist in leading the physiotherapy element of the development and delivery of musculoskeletal sessions in community/primary care setting
  • To take on a physiotherapy clinical leadership role within musculoskeletal service across the Trust being an educational resource to other members of the physiotherapy team and other disciplines as required
  • To manage a defined caseload of clients with highly complex specialised needs within these settings, using evidence based /client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions, maintaining associated records.
  • To provide clinical leadership for musculoskeletal physiotherapy staff, through supervision, appraisal, in service training and mentoring.
  • To be a focus of clinical excellence within musculoskeletal physiotherapy service.
  • To be responsible for the development and utilisation of research evidence, evidence-based practice and integrating this into clinical practice and service delivery to show demonstrable improvement through clinical service redesign.
  • To participate in the planning, development and evaluation of Physiotherapy Services within this designated area/team, holding responsibility for defined projects.
  • To contribute to the maintenance and development of the MSK Physiotherapy Service.
