SBUHB is offering a new opportunity to join our Adult Speech and Language Therapy team in a 0.8wte Band 7 permanent position. The post holder will be responsible for leading our neuro-medical outpatient service for individuals with acquired speech, language, swallowing and communication difficulties and will also act as our highly specialist AAC resource for the adult service.
The post holder will be based at Neath Port Talbot Hospital but will be operational across the Swansea Bay footprint. They will carry their own highly specialist outpatient caseload and have line management and supervision responsibilities for junior members of our outpatient and AAC services.
We are a welcoming and forward thinking team equipped with state of the art equipment and services to optimize patient care including several FEES stacks, Videofluoroscopy clinics and instrumental bio-feedback equipment for dysphagia rehabilitation. The adult team holds regular team CPD meetings and are invested in the personal and professional development of our staff.
Main duties of the job
We are seeking an enthusiastic and dynamic individual who is positive, innovative and able to engage and motivate others. The successful candidate will have highly specialist clinical skills, excellent leadership skills and will have experience of managing others.
The key duties of the role will be to:
- lead on the delivery of outpatient services for the neuro-medical team; managing waiting lists and supervising junior members of staff
- act as a Highly Specialist AAC resource, liaising with the National Electronic Assistive Technology Aids Service and collecting data on SBUHB's AAC service for Welsh Government
- support the implementation and delivery of SBUHB's low tech AAC pathway
- support adult Speech and Language Therapists in their AAC caseload management
- develop AAC knowledge and skills and training opportunities to the adult SLT team across the health board
