HEIW and SBUHB are looking to appoint a full-time 1 year Dental Core Trainee (DCT) 3 post in Restorative Dentistry. The post is for 12 months and will have sessions in Morriston Hospital Swansea and Neath Port Talbot Resource Centre, Baglan. Experience of all facets of Restorative Dentistry including Multidisciplinary services such as Head and Neck oncology, Hypodontia and Trauma are available. In addition sessions on the Special Care General Anaesthetic and Sedation service in Princess of Wales Hospital, Bridgend will also be included. The post would be ideal for a trainee looking to enter higher specialist training particularly in Restorative Dentistry or Special Care Dentistry.

Main duties of the job

The Department provides advice and treatment planning for general dental practitioners and the community dental service. In addition, it supports the activity of other specialties within the Health Board. The job is split between Morriston Hospital, Neath Port Talbot Resource Centre and Princess of Wales Hospital Bridgend.

The current range of services provided by the Department includes:

  • Treatment of multi- and inter-disciplinary cases in conjunction with other specialties.
  • Treatment of the medically, physically and educationally compromised in conjunction with community dental service which is part of the Health Board
  • Maxillo-Facial prosthodontics
  • Implantology
  • Fixed and removable prosthodontics
  • Periodontics
  • Endodontics

As a result of the location of the regional and sub-regional specialties the Restorative Department has significant involvement in the provision of tertiary services. This collaboration results in the Restorative Department being involved in the care of patients with varying and complex treatment needs such as:

  • Head and neck oncology
  • Radiotherapy
  • Cleft lip and palate
  • Cranio-facial abnormalities
  • Orthognathic surgery
  • Renal and cardiac surgery
  • Oral and facial prosthodontics and implantology
  • Blood dyscrasias e.g. haemophiliacs
  • Educationally, physically or medically compromised

About us

Swansea Bay University Health Board has responsibility for the health of around 390,000 people in the Neath Port Talbot and Swansea areas, with a budget of around £1 billion and employing 12,500 people.
