The Community Dental Service (CDS) in Swansea Bay University Health Board (SBUHB) are inviting applications for the post of Senior Dental Officer (SDO) from self-motivated, dedicated and enthusiastic clinicians. The successful post holder will be joining a dynamic CDS team that comprises of a Clinical Lead, Consultant in Special Care Dentistry, Specialists in Paediatric Dentistry, Senior Dental officers, Dental Officers, Dental Therapists, Senior Dental Nurse and Dental Nurses that provide dental care for vulnerable adults and children.
Main duties of the job
The Community Dental Service (CDS) in Swansea Bay University Health Board (SBUHB) provides dental care for vulnerable people of all ages who are unable to receive dental care in general dental practices. The CDS is seeking to appoint a SDO to help develop and deliver dental services. Experience of working in a CDS is desirable, however, an understanding of patients' needs with conditions such as dementia, autism, learning disabilities and those with complex medical conditions is essential. A significant part of the SDO role will involve providing treatment using conscious sedation and possibly general anaesthesia (GA).
This is a permanent full time position, the successful post holder will be based in a CDS clinic in Swansea, but will also be expected to provide clinical activities at other clinics and hospitals within the CDS area of responsibility. This includes supporting GA lists in Princess of Wales Hospital (POW), Bridgend. Clinical activities will include working in a variety of CDS clinics, providing domiciliary dental care in care homes and patients' homes, utilising wheelchair and bariatric aids when required, visiting secure and rehabilitation units as the service demands require.
The CDS is involved in National Epidemiology surveys and also manages SBUHB Designed to Smile, Gwen am Byth and Transformation Programmes.
