Job summary

We are looking for three knowledgeable, enthusiastic, motivated and hard-working data protection professionals with excellent communication and interpersonal skills to become members of our highly respected and very busy Information Governance (IG) Team. These roles have become available due to internal promotion as well as team expansion.

The roles are on a hybrid worker basis, with the official base being at Swansea Bay University Health Board's HQ in Baglan. Attendance at base will be required on a once weekly basis, depending on Directorate requirements, and the remaining time will be spent working from home with the option to work at HQ full time if preferred.

The roles require the postholders to take responsibility for the operational management of all aspects of IG, with a specific focus on given areas to fit in with team needs and organisational requirements. These focus areas may change over time to ensure all staff retain a broad area of expertise and to enable career progression in the future. The main areas of focus, to be split across the three vacant Band 7 roles, are:

  • Breach management / general IG complaints;
  • Individuals' rights including SARs / relevant complaints; and
  • Privacy by design (DPIAs) / contracts.

Main duties of the job

A broad IG knowledge and experience is essential as the postholders will offer staff cover and general support for all areas of data protection legislation.

The roles require excellent report writing skills, an extremely flexible attitude towards changing priorities, an approachable and friendly manner, and the ability to field a variety of general queries from all levels of staff, external organisations and the public. The job involves managing and/or mentoring staff with a coaching, compassionate leadership style.

We would like to recruit people keen to learn and develop their own potential, team players who can work on their own initiative and have the values of the Department and the Health Board at heart. The postholders must be able to form excellent working relationships with a wide variety of staff groups, along with the desire to work as part of a close knit team. The postholders will need to put IG issues into everyday language, and be able to apply their knowledge in different situations appropriately.
