Job summary

The South Wales Sarcoma Service provides diagnosis, specialist treatment, care and holistic support for adults living across South Wales with suspected and confirmed soft tissue sarcoma.

We are aiming to recruit a Clinical Nurse Specialist who will join our existing multidisciplinary team. The post holder will be based in the South West Wales Cancer Centre in Singleton Hospital, providing a service for patients across the region, with a focus on sarcoma oncology in South West Wales. This an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic and motivated Registered Nurse with existing or promising strong clinical and leadership skills.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work in partnership with the existing nursing and medical team, co-managing a clinical caseload of patients with suspected or confirmed soft tissue sarcoma, providing support along the whole diagnostic and treatment pathway, with particular emphasis on supporting patients living in South West Wales referred for oncological therapies. This will provide an excellent opportunity for someone to focus their nursing skills on direct patient care whilst working in a growing, supportive and ambitious team.

Experience of MDT working, autonomous working and care of people with cancer would be an advantage but those who can demonstrate extensive oncological or surgical knowledge and experience are also encouraged to apply. Knowledge or experience of sarcoma would be beneficial but is not essential. Candidates should have a clear understanding of the CNS role as clinical expert, leader, researcher and educator, be committed to specialist nursing practice and be able to demonstrate evidence of ongoing professional development. The ideal candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills, be committed to delivering high quality care and can work well as part of a team.

There is an expectation that the post holder will work closely with the wider sarcoma nurse team, based in Morriston Hospital, to promote and support development of the individual and to maintain continuity of care of patients managed by the specialist MDT.
