Swansea Bay University Health Board have an opportunity part funded by Welsh Government for a Band A Salaried Dentist, to join the team at the Dental Teaching Unit based in Port Talbot Resource Centre.
The post will work alongside, and collaboratively with Dental Services such as, Community Dental Services and Restorative Dentistry, within Primary, Community, and Therapy services.
The purpose of the post is to improve access to dental care for adult patients and allow the unit to test innovative approach to attract new patients to the unit.
Working together with the Health Board and Welsh Deanery, to improve, facilitate and develop dental health care services to patients of the local area. The unit is engaged in the GDS Reform Programme.
The objective is to reduce inequalities in oral health and improve access to the NHS Dental Services by providing an accessible comprehensive range of Primary Care Services.
To support the training and mentoring of the foundation dentists and dental team as and when requested by the Senior Educational Lead.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work, at the dental Teaching Unit, Port Talbot Resource Centre.
To provide quality dental care under General Dental Services Regulations through the provision of:
A full range of primary care dental services under GDS regulations
Dental Teaching Unit operates under Dental Contract reform arrangements, therefore
Use the ACORN toolkit to actively record the risk and needs of patients as part of the detailed assessment and examination of patients attending the unit.
Utilise the ACORN toolkit to effectively communicate oral health risks and needs to patients and work with patients to co-produce agreed oral health outcomes over a period of time or after a course of dental care.
Deliver evidence-based prevention as per the Delivering Better Oral Health: An evidence based toolkit including delivery of fluoride varnish application and /or fissure sealant application on permanent teeth on all patients especially children as appropriate.
Promote oral health education and patient wellbeing to ensure patients understand their role in improving their oral health.
Implement dental recall periods on oral health risk and needs assessment and following NICE guidelines.
Urgent dental care for patients in pain
Subsequent treatment arising from urgent care where this follows a care pathway.
Referral to specialist services where appropriate.
