Job summary

A new Team Lead position has arisen in the Musculoskeletal (MSK) Physiotherapy team. This position will support the developments of MSK services in Swansea Bay University Health Board. They will involve working closely with the Senior Leadership team, other Physiotherapy Clinical Leads, Allied Health Professionals and non-clinical staff, GP's, secondary/tertiary care consultants and other agencies.

Main duties of the job

The role requires diverse operational management skills to support the ongoing delivery and development of the service. This will involve managing a large diverse team.

The physiotherapy service actively encourages personal development with bimonthly audit and CPD sessions. There is expectation for the post holder to provide teaching, audit and research and monitor service performance. The service also has close links with Swansea University to assist with postgraduate educational opportunities.

Job responsibilities

  • To co-ordinate service delivery of the MSK physiotherapy pathways HB wide.
  • To undertake an extended clinical role, performing advanced and specialist therapeutic assessment and treatment of patients with orthopaedic presentations. To provide a diagnosis, develop and deliver an individualised treatment programme, and to maintain records as an autonomous practitioner.
  • To be an autonomous practitioner in assessing new patients, working alongside G.Ps, orthopaedic consultants, and other healthcare professionals as required.
  • Undertake referral triage, including responsibility for the management of both routine and complex pathologies, using advanced clinical knowledge, problem solving and decision making skills.
  • To develop and foster productive relationships with local consultants, GPs and other organisations
  • To provide Clinical leadership for MSK physiotherapy staff
  • To formulate strategies to implement quality improvement, national standards and clinical audit across the MSK physiotherapy services.
  • To be responsible for the development and utilisation of research evidence, evidence based practice and integrating this into clinical practice and service delivery to show demonstrable improvement through clinical service redesign.
  • To undertake and complete additional training and development to support extended clinical physiotherapy role as required.
