Job summary
Medical SDEC are looking for an enthusiastic Nursing Support Worker who wants to make a difference.
Medical SDEC is open Monday-Friday, 08.30 - 22.00 hrs and receives referrals direct from GP's and A&E in order to facilitate the patients assessment and treatment the same day. We also undertake the triage and initial treatment of GP referrals sent for admission.
It is an extremely busy unit comprising of a 6 bedded trolley bay, triage and assessment rooms and a large waiting area.
The working pattern is x3 12 hour shifts Monday- Friday, either 08:30-21:00 or 09:00-21:30 With 2 30 minute unpaid breaks.
Exceptional team working is essential to this role, along with a warm and friendly bedside manner and the ability to work in a high-pressure area. Previous experience in a hospital/acute setting is beneficial but we accept applications from those without hospital care experience.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidates will be responsible for assisting the qualified nurses to meet the basic nursing needs of the patients in their care, as well as working from their own initiative and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced working environment.
You will need to have outstanding communication skills - you will be part of a team of fellow Nursing Support Workers, physician's assistants, registered nurses and nurse practitioners, junior Doctors and consultants.
You will be expected to communicate with these members of the team, along with liaising with our ward clerks on admissions, transfers and discharges.
Your day to day routine will consist of but is not limited to: meeting patients hygiene and toileting needs, serving meals and assisting patients to eat and drink, taking and recording of vital observations, maintaining good levels of stock and PPE, assisting with wound dressings, disposing of hazardous waste safely and correctly and documenting in patients notes.
You will be expected to have a good standard of literacy and numeracy, due to being required to document about the patients skin and the taking and recording of vital signs.
There will be the opportunity to further develop with training and education, we enroll all of our Nursing/Health Care Support Workers onto basic life support training, and there will be opportunities to complete Venopuncture and cannulation training.
