Job summary
As an NHS employee, the post holder provides a comprehensive physical health service as part of the multi-disciplinary team to prisoners with physical health needs within the prison environment.
Working as part of the team to deliver a comprehensive Primary Health Service in partnership with G4S, GP's, Secondary Care Mental Health, and Third Sector parties.
All key stakeholders in the care provision as part of a multi-disciplinary team within the prison setting.
This role involves undertaking health assessments, administering medication and treatments, performing diagnostic tests, whilst providing and evaluating a range of health interventions to meet prisoner health and social care needs.
The post holder will be required to work flexibly across the service, providing responsive, evidence-based interventions, working alongside physical and mental health clinical teams as well as Prison Staff.
The postholder will be part of a NHS team that provides primary care within a prison, preventing transfer to outside hospitals. They will demonstrate knowledge, skills and understanding of health issues and treatment options and have a keen interest in developing knowledge and skills across the integrated services.
Main duties of the job
o Promote the health and well-being of patients/clients and maintain a safe, caring, and therapeutic environment.
o Ensure nursing practice is in accordance with the NMC Code which incorporates and respects differences in respect of gender, sexuality ethnicity, religion culture and disability.
o At all times be aware of and practice within the NMC Code.
o Responsibility for administering medication in accordance with RCN guidance.
o To respond to medical emergencies promptly and to ensure that emergency equipment is conveyed to the scene.
o Informing and advising the Nurse Manager/Deputy of actual or potential problems with regard to patients, staff, visitors, etc, and where necessary, contribute to the appropriate action in resolving such problems on an ongoing basis.

This doesn't mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn't 'fluency', just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health.
