The Role:This is an exciting opportunity to be part of an enthusiastic clinical and management team, encompassing the General Dental Service (GDS), Community Dental Service (CDS) and Dental Teaching Unit (DTU). As Clinical Director, you will provide visible, credible and effective clinical leadership, championing the delivery of high quality, accessible and sustainable dental care for our population.

As well as the Dental and Optometry Directorate you will be a key member of the Care Group Clinical Leadership Team, guiding strategic direction, service improvement and clinical standards across Primary Care Dental Services.

Working collaboratively with the Care Group Service Director, Medical Director and Directorate Manager for Dental & Optometry, you will ensure services are safe, effective, patient focused and responsive to local needs.

Main duties of the job

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide strong, strategic clinical leadership across GDS, CDS and DTU services.
  • Support the development, delivery and evaluation of high-quality Primary Care Dental Services.
  • Work with operational and clinical colleagues to meet performance, access and service delivery targets.
  • Lead and influence service improvement, innovation and quality initiatives.
  • Contribute to long-term planning and transformation of integrated dental services across CTM UHB.
  • Act as a senior clinical voice within the Care Group, offering expert advice, guidance and professional judgement.
  • Work within allocated resources to ensure services remain sustainable and aligned with Health Board priorities.

The scope and portfolio of the role may evolve over time, in agreement with the Care Group leadership team, as part of our commitment to a clinically-led operating model.

  • Educated to degree level or equivalent.
  • Registered with GDC or other relevant Professional Body and with a licence to practice.
  • Evidence of further personal development - education and/or training in leadership and/or management.
  • Full Inclusion on a relevant Dental Performers List in Wales
  • Knowledge of NHS dental provision and regulations within Primary Care.

Desirable

  • Masters level qualification or evidence of training and experience to that level.
  • Health service management / leadership qualification.
  • Membership of the Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management (FMLM)

Essential

  • Significant track record of employment at a senior level in a health related environment.
  • Well established dental/clinical practitioners with considerable dental/clinical experience since full registration with appropriate professional body.
  • Direct and recent clinical experience with demonstrable understanding of NHS dentistry provision in Wales particularly within GDS contract variation.
  • Evidence of a commitment to quality improvement and an understanding of the Health Board's Quality Strategy.
  • Track record of facilitating change to improve services in clinical practice and service growth.
  • Sound knowledge of clinical governance and effective systems of medical management such as job planning, appraisal and clinical assessment.
