Junior Clinical Fellow in ENT

Job summary

This post will join the team responsible for the provision of all Ear Nose and Throat (ENT) services to the Local Health Board in Cwm Taf Morgannwg.

The post will be required to support the delivery of inpatient and emergency ENT services for the local population and in doing so foster excellent working relationships within and outside the specialist area, including medical, nursing, secretarial and support staff, General Practitioners and Management Teams.

The post will be part of the 1:6 on-call rota within the ENT department in the Princess of Wales Hospital. Currently junior on-call roster days include mid-week and weekends and the on-call is resident. This may be subject to change.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will be join a number of ENT Specialty Junior Doctors who will be supported by a team of consultants, junior doctors, and Nursing team.

The role will cover all aspects of ENT services working at junior grade level. This is an ideal opportunity for candidates who wish to gain wider experience in ENT specialties in an acute setting. The post holder will be required to work on the junior grade doctor on-call rota for Princess of Wales Hospital.

A wide range of general experience is a requirement, and special interests, which complement existing services, will be supported.

To be actively involved in the management and decision making for patients.

To be available during the working week so that medical and nursing staff can communicate and consult freely.

To contribute with the multi-disciplinary team in the use of referenced, evidence based guidelines, which are dated, signed and reviewed at least bi-annually or more frequently in light of new evidence.

You may be expected to make independent clinical decisions, but will receive appropriate training/supervision.

Ensure that an appropriate model of care is adopted which recognises the involvement of the multi-disciplinary team, the patient and family.

Work with the rest of the clinical team to support the delivery of a high quality service provided by well-trained staff within clear departmental policies and procedures.

Develop and maintain good communication with clinical colleagues across the Health Board, regarding the treatment of their patients, and the appropriate use of the departments resources.

Required to participate in the Health Board Risk Management process and in Clinical Audit and other clinical governance activities within the department, the directorate and the Health Board. The post holder will be positively encouraged to participate in research and development in line with Health Board, Commissioner and NHS priorities.

Work to ensure that services within the department fulfil contractual performance indicators and work closely with directorate colleagues in identifying problem areas and planning and implementing appropriate solutions
