Job summary
This is a new Consultant post in Respiratory Medicine and General Internal Medicine within Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB, based primarily at Prince Charles Hospital. The role expands the current respiratory team to five consultants and supports the delivery of acute and outpatient respiratory services, ward-based care, diagnostic procedures, and general medical on-call commitments.
The successful candidate will join a supportive, enthusiastic, and forward-thinking multidisciplinary team, working closely with consultants, nurses, physiologists, pharmacists, and wider MDT colleagues. The post offers a balance of respiratory ward work, outpatient clinics, procedural sessions, specialist referrals, and SPA time. There are also opportunities to contribute to service development, research, education, and flexible working arrangements.

Main duties of the job
Key duties include:o To provide consultant cover to ward 12 (respiratory) in Prince Charles Hospital.o To provide consultant cover for respiratory outliers.o To provide specialist reviews of patients under other specialties needing respiratory input.o To contribute to respiratory endoscopy. This will be principally covering a weekly bronchoscopy list on a 1:5 basis, but cover for EBUS is also possible if desired by the candidate.o To contribute to respiratory outpatients.o Attendance at the lung cancer MDT is not mandatory but is welcome.o To participate in an on call rota for general medicine, on a 1:14 basis.o To provide clinical +/- educational supervision of trainees in Respiratory medicine, Internal Medicine and the Foundation Programmeo To support the resident doctor team in Respiratory Medicine - 2 registrars, 2 IMT doctors, and 3 FP doctors, as well as one physician associate.o Lead and develop the Respiratory Serviceo Participate in annual job planning and appraisal. The post holder will be required to maintain their continuing professional development for successful revalidation.o Undertake statutory and mandatory training, as well as essential to role training as determined by the department and organisation.
