Job summary
Applications are invited for a Substantive NHS Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to work with The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service in Bridgend. This post is a replacement post for a substantive ten session role. The post is based at the Princess of Wales Hospital, Coity Road, Bridgend CF31 1RQ.
The successful candidate will join a mature clinical team of consisting of a Senior Specialty Grade Doctor colleague, Team Lead, Nurse Therapists, Psychological Therapists, and Junior Medical Staff to deliver the tier 2/3 CAMH service to the Bridgend area of Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB. There will be opportunities to develop services for children with complex mental health conditions within the Bridgend area and the Cwm Taf locality as a whole service. This is an opportunity to work within a dynamic and transformational service committed to delivering high quality services for the population within the Managed Clinical Network.
There is peer support from psychiatric colleagues across Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB CAMHS and close links with Acute and Community Colleagues in Paediatrics and the Bridgend Local Authority.

Main duties of the job
To improve outcomes for children and young people in South Wales through the provision of timely, high quality, easily accessible, effective and cost-efficient multi-disciplinary and multi-agency support.
To provide developmentally appropriate evidence-based specialist mental health and psychiatric interventions for young people with mental health disorders.
To provide culturally appropriate services which support the local BME community and to provide appropriate access to families prudently.
Through the provision of a clinical consultation service for staff working with children and young people in universal and targeted settings, improve the early recognition of difficulties and provision of appropriate early interventions.
Through appropriate training and service development programmes develop the skills and competencies within specialist NHS CAMHS and in support of the wider children and young people's workforce.
To deliver services in a manner that ensures safeguarding of children and young people is paramount and all staff are appropriately recruited and trained.

Essential
- MB, BS or recognised equivalent. GMC Full Registration / Licence to Practice. Approved Clinician Status or willingness to undertake training / approval process immediately. On the Specialist Register for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry or be within 6 months of the anticipated CCT (CP) / CESR date. Excellent Knowledge in Speciality Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity. Able to manage clinical complexity and uncertainty. Excellent clinical skills using bio- psycho- social perspective and wide medical knowledge. Demonstrate commitment to shared leadership & collaborative working to deliver improvement. Effective communication skills - verbal and written. Up to date with current practices in child and adolescent psychiatry. Able to meet duties under the Mental health Act and Mental Capacity Act.
Desirable
- Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research, management or leadership. Other Additional Qualifications. In Good standing with the GMC with respect to warning and conditions of practice. Previous Experience working in CAMHS. Previous Consultant in CAMHS. Wide experience and skill of therapeutic work with children young people and their families. Evidence of working flexibly with team members and with young people and providing appointments in a range of community settings.
