Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the Cellular Pathology leadership team in CTM. You will have the opportunity to lead and develop routine histology and training across the department.

This role requires the role holder to lead the day to day running of routine histology services.

The role requires the role holder to lead the departmental training across Cellular Pathology.

The role holder will respond to day-to-day queries and escalate any complex issues to their Line Manager.

Main duties of the job

Be a Senior Biomedical Scientist, Histology Manager and Training Lead in the main histology laboratory within the Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB) Cellular Pathology Department.

Be responsible for the day to day management of all technical activities of the Histology laboratory thereby assisting in the smooth running of the service.

Be responsible for leading the training within the department, to support and develop staff within the Cellular Pathology Team.

Expected to maintain an awareness of developments, contribute to strategic planning and provide cover for the other sections of the Cellular Pathology Department.

Act as a day to day manager for staff, providing daily leadership of the routine Histology section, embracing the Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB) values and behaviours to inspire excellence.

Work to broad occupational policies and have significant discretion when dealing with a range of staff and equipment issues.

Essential

  • MSc or other relevant level 7 qualification or equivalent skills, knowledge and experience. Registration with the HealthCare Professions Council (HCPC). Knowledge and experience of working within quality management systems to ISO 15189. Management qualification or commitment to complete a qualification. Documented evidence of on-going participation in CPD

Desirable

  • Previous managerial experience. Training qualification. Specialist knowledge of Cellular Pathology. Accreditation as IBMS. Qualifications e.g. CMet/other verifier/assessor, training Diploma of extended practice, TAQA etc.

Experience

Essential

  • Clinical laboratory experience as a Specialist Biomedical Scientist in Cellular Pathology to meet the requirements of the post. Experience of utilising Microsoft IT programmes. Experience of undertaking audit.

Desirable

  • Experience of procedure or protocol development. Experience of WLIMS (TrakCare Lab).

Skills and Attributes

Essential

  • Ability to organise and plan own work including troubleshooting problems. Ability to organise work for less experienced and/or laboratory support staff. Ability to make judgments and employ analytical skills to determine appropriateness of requests and laboratory testing. Welsh Speaker (Level 1) or willingness to work towards achieving this level.

Desirable

  • Previous experience of undertaking PDRs. Ability to use Oracle to resolve invoice queries.
  • Welsh language speaking/listening skills at Level 3 or above
