You will work flexibly across our integrated community services.

You will have the clinical and professional support of the wider SLT team and your base is negotiable at interview.

You will have specialist skills in dysphagia assessment and management, communication assessment and support, advanced care planning, capacity assessment and facilitation of discharge.

You will be an innovative thinker, able to lead on a new project, work autonomously and as part of a team and a skill for collecting and analysing data.

Main duties of the job

This role offers the opportunity to work across the following areas:

  • Work closely with care agencies/community teams/care home staff and carers
  • Support the process of training home staff
  • Capacity assessments/advanced care planning

You will be supported by robust line management, clinical supervision and adult team meetings. There are good resources available for CPD and staff wellbeing. We are a compassionate and dynamic team who would welcome you to the team with open arms.

Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn't mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing and selecting candidates. This isn't 'fluency', just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health.

This role is offered as a fully qualified Band 6, or as a development Band 6 ANNEX 21 post.

Applications from therapists who do not meet the full criteria of the Band 6 JD/PS, but are looking for a development post are welcomed and encouraged, and will be remunerated under Annex 21 of the A4C T&Cs.

Completion of the qualification/learning and achievement of postgraduate experience is a requirement of the contract of employment for Annex 21 candidates.

During this 36 month training period, salary will be paid in accordance with Annex 21 of the Terms and Conditions as follows : Months 1 - 12 of the training period will be paid at 65% of the top of Band 6 pay scale; Months 13 - 24 of the training period will be paid at 70% of the top of Band 6 pay scale; Months 25-36 of the training period will be paid at 75% of the top of the Band 6 pay scale.

Upon successful attainment of the identified qualification/experience /competencies, even if sooner than the 36 month allocated timeframe, the post holder will automatically move to the Band 6 as they will then meet the full KSF outline of this role and be expected to undertake all duties within the Job Description as indicated.

NOTE : There will be some circumstances where current staff apply for these posts, and their new trainee salary will be below that of their current salary. To aid both the recruitment and development of staff it is recommended that staff across NHS Wales should have continuity of pay for the duration of the training to avoid financial detriment. This should apply when staff take up training posts both within and across NHS Wales organisations. Following this training, the remuneration will be the bottom of Band 6, again without financial detriment.
