Are you an enthusiastic speech and language therapist who is passionate about changing the life chances of children in the Early Years by supporting children's speech, language and communication needs?
Are you looking for a post in the beautiful South Wales valleys?
Then this may be the job for you!
We are delighted to offer this fixed-term band 5 Speech and Language Therapist post, currently funded until March 2026, but likely to be funded on an ongoing basis.
We are looking for a therapist with experience of children under 4 who has excellent communication skills and enjoys working collaboratively with others. You will join the already well-established Flying Start team in Merthyr Tydfil.
You will demonstrate the Health Board values of listening, learning and improving, treating everyone with respect.
English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply
Main duties of the job
You will join a small, passionate and committed team who support preschool children and their parents across the borough. The SLTs provide training and advice to Flying Start settings and wider professionals in health and across the Local Authority at universal and targeted levels, whilst maintaining links to the core SLT service. The focus is on prevention and early identification of speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) whilst promoting responsiveness in caregivers and practitioners through evidence based practice.
We are a friendly and compassionate team who place a strong commitment to supporting staff well-being, supervision and continued professional development.
The children's SLT service has a range of clinical specialists available for support and second opinions and staff are fully supported by a line management structure, Paediatric Team Leads and an Admin Team.
Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This doesn't mean essential; whilst the candidate doesn't need to have skills in Welsh, we'll consider it an advantage when short-listing candidates. This isn't 'fluency', just Speaking & Listening skills at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2) or above. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health. For more information, see 'Welsh Language Guidance' in the documents right at the bottom.
