Job summary
Porter services comprise of operational duties associated with waste, transport, community beds team, mail, support to cleaning services and general hospital porter duty functions.
Contribute to the provision of healthcare for the Cwm Taf University Health Board (CTUHB) by delivering a porter service which meets all organisational and legislative standards and support the Facilities Unit commitment to quality standards.
Support the Porter Services Supervisor and Porter Team Leader in supervising the provision of Porter Services delivery that is managed from a Facilities Centre based at the hospital and ensuring a high quality service is delivered to patients, staff and visitors in accordance with service specifications. Post holder will be required to perform supplementary duties to respond to service needs and that are appropriate to the Facilities services and in line with their grade.
This post is a fixed term/secondment for 6 months due to service needs. If you are interested in applying for it as a secondment, please obtain permission from your current line manager prior to applying.
Main duties of the job
1.To work within CTUHB and routinely at all Health sites, undertaking all duties as designated by the Porter Services Supervisor/Porter Service Team Leader (within remit of the role) and as detailed in standard operating instructions for the post and site.
2. To work as part of the fire response team, liaising with the relevant site nominated officer responsible for fire safety and colleagues, attending incidents and assisting with patient evacuation where necessary.
3. To provide and working on a duty rota; for example, the transfer of patients, movement of clinical and non clinical equipment, collection of specimens, bloods (on or off site), pharmacy duties, wheelchair management services, hospital key control, bulk stores deliveries, mail services, medical gases, waste collection and carry out driving duties on site and at locations off site. Also includes driving and operating a ride on electric tug or floor cleaning machinery/ scrub drier machine to service cleanliness standards and operating a bed mover (where provided RGH and PCH).

- Working within a busy customer focused and productive work environment (preferably within a healthcare setting). Experienced driving different type/model vehicles. Previous experience of providing customer services.
Desirable
- Prior work experience of porter or transport services with the health service or related work e.g. retail, factory, HM forces.
Qualifications and/or Knowledge
Essential
- Educated to a good standard of education or relative work experience. Customer services NVQ level 2 or equivalent level of knowledge and experience. Full driving license. (Cat B license holders with a Cat D1 driver entitlement).
