Job summary
This post will join the team of consultants responsible for the provision of acute services to the University Health Board in Cwm Taf Morgannwg. The post will be part of the surgical team and provide support to the Combined General on-call rota for emergency work at night.
The post will be required to support the delivery of outpatient, inpatient and emergency services for the local population and in doing so foster excellent working relationships within and outside the specialist area, including medical, nursing, secretarial and support staff, General Practitioners and Management Teams.
The post will be expected to take part in the on call which is days 1:7 and nights 1:13 based at Prince Charles Hospital.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will be one of several junior Doctors who will be supported by a team of consultants, middle grades, junior doctors and Nurse Practitioners.
The role will cover all aspects of acute surgical services working at junior doctor grade. This is an ideal opportunity for candidates who wish to gain wider experience in surgical specialties in an acute setting and help prepare them for higher training in surgery. The post holder will be required to work on the junior doctor on-call rota for Prince Charles Hospital.
A wide range of general experience is a requirement, and special interests, which compliment existing services, will be supported.

- Regular operating lists supervised by a Consultant.
- To be actively involved in the management and decision making for patients.
- To be available during the working week so that medical and nursing staff can communicate and consult freely.
- To conduct ward rounds to identify and assess problems and assist in joint plans for management of care.
- To contribute to an appropriate model of care which, recognises the involvement of the multi-disciplinary team, the patient and family.
- To contribute with the multi-disciplinary team in the use of referenced, evidence based guidelines, which are dated, signed and reviewed at least bi-annually or more frequently in light of new evidence.
- Ensure that an appropriate model of care is adopted which recognises the involvement of the multi-disciplinary team, the patient and family.
- Assist the multi-disciplinary team in the production of referenced, evidence based guidelines, which are dated, signed and reviewed at least bi-annually or more frequently in light of new evidence.
