Job summary

As an NHS employee the role provides a comprehensive physical health service as part of the Multi-Disciplinary Team to prisoners with physical health needs within the prison environment.

The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of NHS Nursing Practice within the Prison population. The focus of the role is both the delivery of evidence-based practice for prisoners presenting with a chronic condition, Infection control and the provision of preventative health care.

As part of a team the role delivers a comprehensive Primary Health Service in partnership with G4S, GP's, Secondary Care Mental Health, and Third Sector parties. All key stakeholders in the care provision as part of a multidisciplinary team within the prison setting.

Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This means Speaking & Listening at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2). We don't need fluency. Main duties of the job

o Promote the health and well-being of patients/clients and maintain a safe, caring, and therapeutic environment.

o Ensure nursing practice is in accordance with the NMC Code of Conduct which incorporates and respects differences in respect of gender, sexuality ethnicity, religion culture and disability.

o At all times be aware of and practice within the NMC Code of Conduct.

o Responsibility for administering medication in accordance with RCN guidance.

o To respond to medical emergencies promptly and to ensure that emergency equipment is conveyed to the scene.

o Informing and advising the Nurse Manager/Deputy of actual or potential problems with regard to patients, staff, visitors, etc, and where necessary, contribute to the appropriate action in resolving such problems on an ongoing basis.

o Be required to make decisions on care provided, making referrals as appropriate: these may involve judgements involving complex facts or situations, which require analysis, interpretation, and

o comparison of a range of options, for example, when responding to a medical emergency

o Assist in the supporting/teaching of other registered nurses, student nurses and healthcare support workers.
