Job summary
The post holder will work as a member of the Paediatric Team, under the direction of the Ward Manager/Nurse in Charge. The post holder will always adhere to the Code of Conduct for Healthcare Support Workers in Wales (WG 2011) and the NLIAH (2010) All Wales Guidelines for Delegation.
They will support the Registered nurse in delivering a high standard of care to the child/young person and their family and will work as part of the nursing and multidisciplinary team within clinic situations and other establishments where/when appropriate under the direction of the Registered nurse.
The post holder will on occasions be required to work without direct supervision.
Main duties of the job
- Maintain a high standard of care, adhering always to Cwm Taf Morgannwg UHB's policies, guidelines and procedures, and may be required on proposed changes to procedures and working practices.
- Accurately record temperature, pulse, respiratory rate, blood pressure, peak flow, height, weight, head circumference and oxygen saturation as required and be aware of normal and abnormal values, reporting to the Registrant/Medical Practitioner any changes or abnormal values.
- Following competence-based training; the post holder will undertake clinical tasks such as recording of vital signs.
- Ensuring that the needs of the child are paramount and to be aware of and adhere to Policies and Guidelines in relation to the Safeguarding of Children.
- Use effective communication skills, both written and verbal, when communicating with parents, carers and all members of the multi-disciplinary team including Registered Nurses, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Dieticians and Medical Staff, where there may be barriers to understanding e.g. hard of hearing, learning disability, English not the first language
- Adhere to the Health Board's Information Governance Policy.
- Utilise electronic patient information systems e.g. Myrddin, paper based records to update patient information and record observations and assessments.
- Occasionally participate in collecting appropriate data and statistics required for local audit and surveys.
