We are seeking a highly motivated Healthcare support worker to rise to the challenge of working within the Radiology Department of the Princes of Wales Hospital Bridgend.

You will work alongside the Nurse Manager, Radiology Specialist Nurses and Radiologist to ensure the delivery of high quality nursing care for all patients requiring radiology interventions. Experience within this care setting would be preferential but not essential.

Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This means Speaking & Listening at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2). We don't need fluency. Main duties of the job

The Band 2 Health care support worker in Radiology provides support in diagnostic imagine within the radiology department.

Their duties include: - Patient care and support, patient preparation. Escorting patients, providing comfort and reassurance.

Assisting with procedures - Positioning patients, equipment handling and support during imaging.

Basic administration duties - Ensuring patient records are up to date and accurate.

Maintaining cleanliness and safety - Cleaning equipment, radiation safety.

Communication - Patient interaction and ensuring team work with other healthcare professionals to ensure smooth operations within the department.

Job description

Job responsibilities

The post holder will work as part of the Radiology nursing team to assist in the delivery of a high standard of care to patients undergoing intervention and therapeutic procedures.

Be able to communicate in a manner that is understood and always in a polite and respectful manner.

The post holder will also be required to undertake the HCSW induction program and training (if not already done so) for the basic fundamentals of care.

The post holder will be required to complete a competency framework workbook to demonstrate ability to undertake practices.

The post holder will be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) this includes lead weight coats during some procedures.

The post holder will assist in clinical procedures once all training has been completed. This includes

Assisting the Nursing team in procedure preparation undertaking ANTT.

Assisting the Nursing team in cleaning trolleys and equipment post procedures in line with Decontamination policies.

The post holder will be expected to complete the local safety procedural check list ensuring all documentation has been completed.

The post holder will require standard keyboard skills to contribute to updating patients records electronically using a variety of software programs or paper copies.

The utilisation of verbal and non-verbal communication techniques to communicate effectively with range of individuals to include peers, colleagues, multi-disciplinary team members, patients, carers and visitors.

Demonstrate the ability to communicate with individuals in an appropriate manner where barriers may exist e.g. cultural, language barrier, sensory impairment or physiological difficulties.

Effectively liaising with other disciplines to ensure efficient patient care/safety throughout, to include liaising with wards and porters to discuss and arrange appropriate patient preparation, pathways, appointment time and transport needs.

Respond appropriately to routine queries, take phone messages and pass on written and verbal information to patients and staff in a timely manner exchanging accurate information regarding all aspects of an examination to ensure the patient, carer or staff member is fully informed, providing encouragement, support and reassurance when required.

Collect, direct and escort patients throughout the Department ensuring efficient and safe workflow

Chaperone - Provide care for patients undergoing intimate examinations ensuring their dignity and confidentiality is maintained.

To assist in clinical duties, working at specific level of competency ensuring patient safety is maintained at all times.

Demonstrate an understanding and commitment to working within own competency, seeking advice, and guidance or support as necessary.

Demonstrate good personal time management, punctuality and consistent attendance.

Be able to recognise Safeguarding concerns, and where appropriate, initiate the safeguarding procedure, taking into account the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards and Mental Capacity Act requirements, and escalate concerns to senior staff when required.

Act as an advocate for those in their care, particularly those who lack capacity or the ability to consent and are deemed vulnerable. There may be a requirement to seek advice from the Supervising Clinician or Allied Health Professional

Exchange factual information regarding all aspects of an examination to ensure patient is fully informed, providing encouragement, support and reassurance when required.
