Job summary
The Ophthalmology Nurse will provide specialist ophthalmology nursing knowledge, skills and competence in developing and maintaining the provision of nurse led clinics and services. They will be a competent nurse specialist for the service.
The Ophthalmology Nurse shares workload and responsibility with medical staff and other ophthalmology clinical staff to make the best use of specialist clinical skills within the ophthalmology department, enabling the department to provide this specialized service. They will assist in leading and monitoring the performance and work of the nursing team.
This position is based at the Princess of Wales Hospital but the successful candidate may be expected to work across all sites within Cwm Taf Morgannwg.
Main duties of the job
The Ophthalmology department has a vacancy for a dynamic, highly motivated and experienced nurse to join our progressive team. We are looking for an ophthalmic nurse who is keen to learn additional skills within the ophthalmology Speciality.
You must possess good communication skills and be able to work well as part of a team. You must be flexible in your approach and be able to respond appropriately to the demands of an ever changing workload.
The Ophthalmology Nurse is expected :
- The post holder will ensure the provision of the highest standard of direct patient care, which reflects the quality standards and mission of the University Health Board (UHB). The post holder will also contribute to the development and implementation of policies and procedures within their sphere of responsibility.
- The post holder will be required to carry out a range of assigned tasks involving direct and indirect care for the benefit of the patient/client in accordance with agreed protocols.
- The post holder will be responsible for ensuring that all policies and procedures are observed, and meet the UHB requirements contained in Health and Safety Policy.
Welsh Skills Desirable: This post is advertised as Welsh Desirable. This means Speaking & Listening at Level 3 (equivalent to CEFR B2). We don't need fluency. Level 3 means basic conversations with patients about their everyday health. For more information, see the 'Croeso Candidate' booklet below.
