Job summary
We are pleased to offer an exciting opportunity for an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to join our welcoming Adult Mental Health Team at the Royal Glamorgan Hospital (RGH), a key site within Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTMUHB). This is a pivotal time to join a clinically strong and forward-thinking service committed to excellence in patient care, professional development, and staff wellbeing.
RGH provides a robust inpatient service through four dedicated adult mental health wards:
- Admissions Ward (14 beds): Intensive assessment and short-term stabilisation
- Ward 21 & Ward 22 (14 beds each): Ongoing treatment for localities including Merthyr, Cynon, Rhondda, and Taff Ely
- PICU (6 beds): High-level care with consultant cross-cover
All admissions are managed via the Crisis Resolution Home Treatment Team (CRHT), ensuring appropriate gatekeeping and continuity. Care is delivered by a skilled multidisciplinary team (MDT) including Consultant Psychiatrists, Nurses, Pharmacists, and Allied Health Professionals. Daily reviews and collaborative care planning ensure patients and families are actively involved in treatment decisions.
CTMUHB is currently remodelling inpatient services to enhance care through a direct-to-treatment model, recovery-focused redesign, and strengthened integration with community services. Workforce development and MDT skill mix reviews are also underway.
