Job summary

The Occupational Health service works to "promote good health, safety and welfare in work-collaboratively facilitating the right support, at the right time in the right way"

The post holder is responsible for providing comprehensive and objective occupational health advice to Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board (CTM UHB) and Cardiff and Vale University Health Board (CAVUHB) employees and other external contracts. The post holder will exercise considerable initiative, work autonomously and will establish relationships with service users and agencies and will be a key player in the rapidly evolving occupational health service in line with current occupational health initiatives.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Main duties of the job

To provide clinical advice and practice that is based on the specialist knowledge and skills of Occupational Health nursing.o Undertake health assessments for all potential employees in accordance with the Department of Health guidelines and Occupational Health policy with particular reference to "exposure prone procedures".o Identify, plan and maintain the administration of the vaccine & immunisation regimes, relevant to the occupation, as per local guidelines and policy.o Undertake and manage own caseload of managerial referrals in accordance with Occupational Health policies.o Work in compliance with government legislation, trust policy and agreedOccupational Health protocols with regard to; implementing health and safety at work.o Advise employees and managers on the management of infectiousepisodes/illnesses/accidents and assess individual care needs with regard to treatment and /or referrals. Facilitate liaison with other disciplines, as appropriate to maintain high standards of care, at all times.o Conduct health surveillance as required by government legislation and UHB policy.o Give advice and support to clients who are required to travel for work purposes, regarding their vaccination and chemoprophylaxis requirements.o Participate in the induction and training of new employees.o Undertake workplace visits, for the purpose of risk assessments and regular audit.

  • Degree in Nursing
  • Post basic occupational health qualification (Diploma/Degree)
  • Evidence of professional development and willingness to acquire further qualifications relevant to occupational health
  • Knowledge of organisations policies and procedures
  • Professional awareness and ongoing professional development

Desirable

  • RSCPHN(OH)-Part 3 NMC register
  • NEBOSH certificate
  • Ergonomics qualification
  • Member of specialist interest groups and networks locally and nationally
  • Previous experience working in an NHS Occupational Health Department
