Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a band 5 registered nurse to join our busy ophthalmology team on a permanent basis at the Princess of Wales Hospital at Bridgend. This position is an excellent professional development opportunity and a chance to give insight into the fundamentals of ophthalmic specialist nursing.
Our Team delivers specialist services and procedure in many Ophthalmic conditions. We also provide a telephone triage line for emergency referrals and to support existing patients
Main Duties of the job
- You will be responsible for the assessment and planning of car needs for Ophthalmic Patients and coordinating the flow of patients throughout the unit.
- You will be expected to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and to support all members of staff in the defined clinical area.
- You will be required to be responsible of the clinical area in the absence of a more senior nurse.
- You will be preparing patients prior to their consultation with a doctors, this may include visual acuity testing, the administration of eye drops and perform some medial imaging. All training will be provided.
- You will assist in the treatment rooms supporting colleagues with minor operations and or diagnostic tests.
- The successful applicant may be required to work across sites to meet the demands of the service.
Main duties of the job
This role will provide a great opportunity to gain essential skills in treating and assessing patients requiring urgent eye care.
We are seeking a dynamic, motivated and enthusiastic nurse who wishes to gain some insight into Ophthalmology. Part of the role will require the successful candidate to provide telephone and face to face triage whilst also gaining the knowledge and understanding in extensive ophthalmic skills under guidance of team members.
The successful candidate will undertake training for all clinical skills, including a competency assessment package. Ophthalmology course/experience is desirable but not essential.
You must possess good communication skills and be able to work well as part of a team. You must be flexible in your approach and be able to respond appropriately to the demands of an ever changing workload.
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.
