Job summary
An exceedingly rare opportunity has become available for a successful Registered Mental Health Nurse to become the Team Leader of the Taff Community Drug and Alcohol Team. The post holder will provide day to day management and supervision of a team of registered and unregistered staff within the Team by acting as a leader and role model.
They will demonstrate clinical leadership and facilitate the implementation and evaluation of nursing care to ensure that the highest standard of nursing care is achieved. They will also work as part of a multi-professional team and ensure that care is patient centered and evidenced based.
The successful applicant will also demonstrate excellent skills in work planning, negotiation skills to facilitate partnership working with the third sector (Barod) and will be able to demonstrate experience and/ or a working understanding of performance management, service development and the clinical review process.
Main duties of the job
- Actively promote the development of evidence based practice and ensure that nursing care is of the highest standard
- Foster robust working relationships with all disciplines and partners in particular the other service providers in the local Clinical Service Group.
- Lead on the management of complex cases and supporting staff in the management of such cases.
- Ensure that a culture of effective risk management is present in the team
- To respond as required to serious untoward incidents, complaints and communications regarding team issues providing feedback to the team to ensure lessons learned are shared and inform practice development
- Deputise for Senior Nurse as and when required.

Job responsibilities
- The post holder will:
- Work as part of a multi-disciplinary, fostering good communication with colleagues of all disciplines.
- Promote effective communication within the team by organising and chairing regular team meetings, cascading information, discussing key issues and directing the team where necessary.
- Be responsible for ensuring team members are briefed on changes within the service and providing feedback on clinical governance issues such as the outcome of clinical reviews and service redesign to inform practice and service development.
- Manage highly complex and contentious information effectively demonstrating excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing.
- Establish rapport and maintain supportive professional relationships with patients and their carers, even when there are barriers to acceptance such as lack of insight or difficulties adjusting to complex life changes; recognising the stress associated with caring, offering and promoting carers assessments as required.
- Liaise with statutory and voluntary sector agencies in particular Childrens Services, Social Services, Pharmacies, and the Criminal Justice Agencies.
- Actively engage in partnership working with substance misuse third sector partners and primary care services.
- Provide specialist clinical reports as required e.g. Court, child protection case conferences and Probation.
- Ensure record keeping meets the standard required by the NMC, utilising paper-based or IT systems as directed by the Senior Nurse and ensuring information sharing protocols are understood and appropriately explained to clients.

- Be a registered mental health nurse with significant and proven experience of working in substance misuse.
- Possess clinical experience and specialist knowledge within the field of substance misuse and mental health.

- It is desirable to possess an independent prescriber qualification and able to prescribe for patients at the point of access, including community settings. Seeks supervision as per prescriber registration requirements this may be negotiated with the Senior Nurse.
- To actively participate and contribute to the substance misuse clinical governance agenda and service development.
