Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dynamic, visionary Consultant Midwife to join our team at Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board

The role of the consultant midwife is to provide expert clinical care and leadership within the maternity service. By working in collaboration with the Director of Midwifery, Obstetric Unit Heads of Midwifery, Group Service Director ,Clinical Director and wider perinatal senior team, the Consultant Midwife will deliver clinical care and ensure there is effective leadership, education and training, practice and service development and research/evaluation within the maternity service.

They will be an expert, autonomous practitioner of midwifery, a role model for midwives, a lead for midwifery research and practice development and a reference for multi-professional colleagues within the Health Board

The Consultant Midwife will function as an expert midwifery advisor internally and externally. This will include acting as an ambassador for the Health Board's maternity and neonatal services, raising the profile of Cwm Taf Morgannwg Health Board as a maternity and neonatal centre of excellence internally and nationally as required by the Director of Midwifery or Executive Nurse Director.

Main duties of the job

The Consultant Midwife will work in conjunction with the Director of Midwifery and local Heads of Midwifery to lead the maternity transformation programme regarding professional issues to support the service on its journey of continuous improvement.

The post will be characterised by the following four principal functions of a Consultant Midwife:-

Expert Midwifery Practice and Service Development

Professional Leadership and consultancy

Education and Training

Research, audit and evaluation function

The Consultant Midwife will work with the Care Group Directors, Heads of Midwifery, and the wider multi-disciplinary team, providing strategic and clinical midwifery leadership which reflects and supports current and future needs of the maternity service. Involved in developing and maintaining collaborative working and effective communication within key stakeholder to provide evidence-based positive experience for women, pregnant and birthing people and their families.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this role; Welsh and/or English speakers are equally welcome to apply.

About us

Our service supports over 4500 women through their pregnancy, birth and beyond in the care setting of their choice. Our maternity service offers a full range of birth settings. Women, pregnant and birthing people can choose to give birth at home, within one of two obstetric led settings, an alongside birth centre or within our beautiful Midwifery-led Free Standing Birth Centre located within the Royal Glamorgan Hospital.
