Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Young Persons Drug and Alcohol Service (YPDAS) within CAMHS for a Band 3 Health Care Support Worker.

This post is fixed term/secondment for 2 years to meet the needs of the service.

This brand new post and has been developed to support and strengthen the existing nursing team to improve engagement and outcomes for young people who use substances and have complex issues, e.g. safeguarding, co existing mental and/or physical health, high risk substance use.

The post will be based at Tonteg Child and Family clinic with majority of the post holders time spent in the community across all the Cwm Taf Morgannwg region, engaging young people in their own homes, clinic sites, schools/colleges, and our partner agencies bases.

The post will require excellent communication skills, compassion and enthusiasm for the substance misuse specialty and young people, with the ability to work collaboratively with other agencies.

The post holder will demonstrate a sound knowledge base of age-appropriate interventions to engage, and support children, young people and their families experiencing issues with substance use.

Main duties of the job

To work within the Young Persons Drug and Alcohol Service (YPDAS) with young people and their families/carer's who require input from a Tier 3 specialist substance misuse service across Cwm Taf Morgannwg.

To assist the registered nurse and multidisciplinary team in undertaking comprehensive assessments, care plan reviews and monitoring.

To deliver specific clinical and therapeutic interventions to young people and their families/carer's as specified in the agreed young person's care plan. Including health screening and monitoring, undertaking/obtaining clinical observations, substance use education and advice, and clinical administrative duties.

To work on occasions without direct supervision in a range of community/clinical settings to deliver interventions agreed in the care plan.

To work with a particular emphasis on supporting engagement in intervention, and supporting and facilitating the young persons recovery journey.

The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply
