Job summary
Gynaecology Unit
The work of the Prince Charles Hospital Gynaecology Unit includes general care of patients, admission of emergency patients and waiting list for operation. Elective admissions attend a nurse led pre-operative assessment clinic.
There are eight operating sessions at Prince Charles Hospital and eight operating sessions in Royal Glamorgan Hospital. There are nine Gynaecology Clinics, (three at Prince Charles Hospital, three at Royal Glamorgan Hospital, two at YCC and one at Mountain Ash Hospital).
Obstetric Unit
There are around 1,800 deliveries in the North Cwm Taf area. The work includes intrapartum care, ante natal and post-natal management of patients. The majority of the patients are booked cases but all the emergencies in the area are admitted. There are six consultants Ante natal Clinics, two at YCC Hospital and four in Prince Charles Hospital, including the clinic for women with medical complications in pregnancy.
Main duties of the job
DUTIES OF THE POST
- The department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology aims to provide a complete programme of care to both emergency and elective patients, with triage and redirection of those patients more properly treated elsewhere.
- The post holder will be required to participate in a 1:10 Full Shift System which includes one week of nights per 10 week cycle with built in prospective cover. On Call duties take place in Prince Charles Hospital only and this is a 2B banding. Duties will comprise the assessment, monitoring, treatment and follow up of emergency patients under the supervision of the Consultant. This will include Labour Ward
- The post holder will rotate to cover the planned leave commitments of the junior grade structure. In the event of unplanned emergency/sickness, the post holder may be requested to cover the duties of his/her colleagues.
- The post holder may be required to undertake daytime clinical commitments on any site across the sites.
Participation in outpatient clinics follow up patients and preparation for and participation in operating lists in both day case and main theatres is also required.
