Main duties of the job
THIS POST IS FIXED TERM FOR UPTO 12 MONTHS DUE TO MEET THE NEEDS OF THE SERVICE
We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated consultant to join a dynamic, forward looking and innovative medical team. The post holder will be based at Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil, where the Health Board has acute hospital beds covering all medical and surgical specialities.
The post holder(s) will be expected to help develop acute and general medical services, as part of an exciting development more broadly across our Unscheduled Care Group.
Key to the development of services will be to develop clinical relationships with the colleagues in the Clinical Service Group and University Health Board as well as strengthening working relationships with Primary Care colleagues in order to develop services locally

About us
In total, Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board employs over 13,500 staff across three District General Hospital sites - Prince Charles, Royal Glamorgan Hospital and Princess of Wales Hospital and seven smaller community hospitals. It also has employees in the local health communities.
Prince Charles Hospital in Merthyr Tydfil has around 430 beds, and provides acute emergency and elective medical and surgical services, Intensive Care and Coronary Care; consultant-led obstetrics services with Special Care Baby Unit, inpatient consultant-led paediatric medicine and has a busy Emergency Department. There are seven operating theatres and a Day Surgical Unit. The hospital also provides sub-regional oral and maxillofacial services, a full range of locally provided and visiting specialist outpatient services and has an extensive range of diagnostic services and facilities.
Many of the Health Board's corporate and management offices are located on this site, along with clinical staff residences.

At time of interview, the candidate must be:
on the specialist register;
OR be within 6 months of the anticipated CCT / CESR date if progress has been satisfactory and it is anticipated that the outcome of the final ARCP will recommend that training will be completed by the time the recommend CCT / CESR date is reached;
OR have a primary medical qualification and recognised specialist qualification from an EEA country or Switzerland which will allow directed entry onto the Specialist Register.
Prior to taking up the post the candidate must be on the Specialist Register.
Possession of MRCP (UK) or equivalent qualification
Completion of Higher Speciality Training in Respiratory and General (Internal) Medicine, or equivalent
Ability to manage and lead a multidisciplinary team including junior doctors and therapists
Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
Ability to run an efficient and effective acute service
Ability to organise and manage care of patients within both Acute unit and outpatient areas
Experience of audit/quality improvement
Ability to work in a multi-professional team
Good interpersonal skills
Caring attitude to patients
Ability to communicate effectively - with patients, relatives, GPs, nurses and others
