An exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate 8b Psychologist to join our thriving Older Person's Psychology Team within CTM UHB, on a full-time and permanent basis. The successful candidate will become the Lead for Memory Assessment Services across the health board, experiencing the breadth and diversity of clinical work that this specialty has to offer. They will become a senior member of the team, alongside fellow colleagues covering CMHT and Inpatient services.
The CTM UHB Older Person's Psychology Team consists of a supportive and passionate team of colleagues, including experienced Clinical and Counselling Psychologists, Assistant Psychologists and Psychological Therapists. We're a team who embraces change and opportunity, and are currently in an exciting period of service development. The successful candidate will be well supported and mentored by senior colleagues, and provided with a range of opportunities for career development.
The wider Psychology service within CTM UHB has undergone exciting developments in recent months and is a thriving department to sit within. We hold regular conferences throughout the year, where psychology teams across CTM UHB come together to share good practice and innovations within the trust and wider area. We have close links with local Doctoral Clinical/Counselling Psychology programmes and provide regular training and placement opportunities to Trainees.
Main duties of the job
Within CTM UHB, Older Person's Mental Health services are currently divided into five areas: Bridgend, Rhondda, Cynon, Taff and Merthyr - each area consists of an Older Person's Community Mental Health Team (OPCMHT) and Memory Assessment Service (MAS), and Older Person's Mental Health Inpatient wards. The successful candidate for this post will provide specialist input for MAS across Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board and will be the service lead within Psychology.
This role provides an opportunity for an experienced 8b Psychologist to work as a senior clinician, leading on service development of the MAS pathways across the health board. The post holder will supervise and support the psychological/Neuropsychological assessment and interventions provided by practitioner psychologists, trainees and assistant psychologists, as well as offering consultation and developing formulations in collaboration with the memory assessment service multi-disciplinary teams to understand and manage complex presentations. The post holder will also take lead responsibility within Memory Assessment Service for developing and delivering psychological interventions to those experiencing psychological difficulties, with expertise in a number of approaches (e.g., including cognitive behaviour therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, humanistic and systemic interventions).
The ability to speak Welsh is desirable for this post; English and/or Welsh speakers are equally welcome to apply.

Qualifications/Knowledge
Essential
- Post-graduate doctoral level training in Clinical Psychology (or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996) as accredited by the BPS, or Counselling Psychology with additional training in neuropsychology including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics and neuropsychology, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology.
- Doctorate level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of applied psychology.
- Highly developed knowledge of the theory and practice of neuropsychology.
- Registered with the HCPC as a Practitioner Psychologist
- Knowledge of the theory and practise of specialised psychological therapies in difficult to treat groups (e.g. dementia and behaviours that challenge in the context of dementia).
Desirable
- Pre-qualification training in research methodology, staff training and/or other applied fields.
- Evidence of an interest in working towards the Full-Practitioner Membership Qualification of the Division of Neuropsychology.
- Interested in, enrolled on or completed the Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology (QICN).
- Formal training in supervision of other psychologists
